Goni Puppet Theatre is a puppet-based theatre group founded in 2023. Goni Puppet Theatre consists of alumni from ISI Yogyakarta who come from theatre and visual arts major gathering in one space to create works that merge their individual talents.
The name “Goni” comes from “karung goni” the burlap sack that inspired the creation of this puppet theatre group. Karung goni or burlap sack is made from natural fibers, commonly used to store food, and it has a unique, aesthetic look. By choosing the name Goni, it reflects the hope that this group can become a space for creativity, creative in an eco-friendly way, and produce artworks with strong aesthetic value.
Although “Goni” represents the identity of Goni Puppet Theatre, we continually incorporate various materials in order to keep innovating.
